Jar of Stars

I went to the moon and hooked some stars.  I keep them in a jar that used to house little bears....
THE JAR:
Peel off as much of the label as possible.  Rub some cooking oil over any sticky residue, then rinse with warm soapy water.  Repeat this a few times until the surface is nice and clean.  Bore holes with a wood-burning tool.  BEFORE ATTEMPTING THIS, PLEASE READ THIS CAUTION REGARDING BURNING PLASTICS.

THE PIN-CUSHION:
Work in the round with SC until you have about 5 rounds; increase as you go so that you end up with 24-30 stitches.  Make one round HDC.  Make another round with SC (insert the hook behind the HDC to give a nice chain at the top rim of the pin cushion).  Make another round with SC, and then finish with one round of HDC.
Sew on one of the stars.  Line and stuff the inside with left-over yarn, and cover the lid with its new beanie.

THE STAR:
Magic Circle 5 SC, and close with a SL
(CH3, SL back into 2nd chain, CH1 and SL into the next SC of the circle) X 5
Fasten off and leave the strands for decoration, or weave them in based on your preference.
Sew one star onto the lid.

Now you can insert your hooks for easy access...

Or make a variation...

  3. You're welcome! Thanks for hooking; I mean, looking :D Since I posted this, I've thought of making another one just to hold pencils, and another for paint brushes... hey, how 'bout toothbrushes.... loads of possibilities.
