Hi!  I'm Karen.  I'm the one with the long hair, proudly hanging out with my husband and our two boys in our home just east of San Francisco.  I try to keep my life private, but because I draw most of my inspiration from my family, they make cameo appearances on this blog from time to time, plus their beautiful smiles are too shiny-happy to keep to myself.  I've been a SAHM (stay-at-home-mom) for the last few years and before that, I was an industrial engineer in the Silicon Forest of Oregon.

I love to crochet, sew and upcycle anything from plastics to well-worn clothes.  You'll find that most of the things I create have a childish-and-frugal theme.  I was never one for glam and bling.  I don't like to carry handbags worth more than what I can carry in them.  Before I make something, I always envision what my mom would have done at the age of 10.  My mom grew up in an orphanage and was always the big sister (bordering on being mom) to the other orphans.  I keep in my heart the story she told me about being in a crochet class as a little girl with just a ball of yarn.  After being graded on one project, she would have to unravel it to make the next project.  Oh, what I would give to have seen those projects or to see a little girl wielding her hook and imagination to bring her thoughts to something tangible.

With every project I endeavor to create as little waste as possible, and to brighten my readers' day with new and unexpected toys and crafts.

I love comments. Next to smiles, they're my favorite.
